November 17th Kick-off Public Meeting Summary
On November 17th, 2009, a kick-off public meeting was held for the Tri-borough Comprehensive Plan. The purpose of this meeting was to outline the process for citizens, gather important information and receive input from those in attendance, and update the public on the planning process and the schedule for future participation.
It was a very good meeting where everyone in attendance had the opportunity to express ideas for things that they would like to see change in the future and also things that they currently enjoy and would like to preserve in this area. Your input will be used to define a shared vision for the future of Dallastown, Red Lion and Yoe.

Some ideas that were shared at the meeting include: -preserving our community parks and enhancing the parks in Yoe with more up to date facilities -improve sidewalks in all three boroughs -preserve and maintain the existing infrastructure and facilities before we focus on new things -preserve the small number of farms that are located in the boroughs -revitalize the House of Windsor to allow for commercial use -improve the method of notification of emergency issues to residents of the boroughs -reduce the inefficiency and wastefulness of Dallastown School Districts use of tax dollars (i.e. tennis court lights on till late at night even when no one is playing, etc.) -reduce energy costs within the boroughs by becoming more energy efficient -cut costs by sharing services within the boroughs and investigate ways to generate new income streams -utilize local people for jobs and projects within the boroughs -preserve historical buildings located in the area -preserve and improve the "small-town" feel for future generations -traffic issues created by surrounding municipalities -look into design standard controls for redevelopment in commercial districts to protect the "small-town" atmosphere -reduce vandalism
Thank you to all those who were in attendance! Your input and ideas will be very helpful in defining the vision for your towns. Attendance for the meeting was great, but bring a friend to the next meeting...the more new faces the better!
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO SHAPE THE FUTURE OF YOUR REGION
The Boroughs of Dallastown, Red Lion and Yoe will create a Joint Comprehensive Plan to help guide future development.
What is a Comprehensive Plan and why is it important?
n A Statement of Community Vision - Goals and Objectives. n Policies and recommendations to achieve goals. n Short and long term Implementation Strategies. n Tool for future land use planning and future zoning decisions.
Who must complete a Comprehensive Plan?
n The State of PA through the Municipalities Planning Code (PA Act 247 as amended) requires every county to prepare a Comprehensive Plan n Many municipalities prepare their own Comprehensive Plans n Statewide, an average of 62% of municipalities have Comprehensive Plans
