War Presentation at 7pm
at the Dallastown Area Historical Society Museum.
Richard Saylor will give
a talk about the Civil War at the Dallastown Area Historical Society
Museum. It is a three part talk about the following Civil War subjects
with illustrations from Pennsylvania Historical Museum Commission (PHMC)
collections: Anti-war and Reconstruction Sentiment in Pennsylvania;
Soldiers to Governors (six PA Civil War veterans who became the Governor
of Pennsylvania); and the African-American Experience in Pennsylvania
during the Civil War. Mr. Saylor is an Archivist at PHMC and author of
the book Soldiers to Governors: Pennsylvania’s Civil War Veterans Who
Became State Leaders.

Historical Society is located at 118 E. Main St. in Dallastown, across
from Bethlehem United Methodist Church.

Bio: Richard C. Saylor
has been employed by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission
since 1991. He is currently the Head of the Appraisal & Acquisitions
Section at the Pennsylvania State Archives. Previous PHMC duties have
seen him serve as assistant curator of military, political, and
industrial history in the State Museum of Pennsylvania, and as the
assistant registrar for the agency. He is co-chair of the Interpretive
Committee of the Pennsylvania Civil War Trails Project, and is also the
project archivist for State Archives’ Civil War Muster-Out Rolls
Project. He is the author of a number of articles about Pennsylvania
film censorship, sports history, and military history. He holds a B.A.
in history from Elizabethtown College and a M.A. in American Studies
from Penn State University. He has recently been featured as a guest on
WITF Radio’s Smart Talk Program discussing Pennsylvania and the Civil
War with Civil War scholars Ed Bearss and Ted Alexander -

He has just completed his first
book – Soldiers to Governors: Pennsylvania’s Civil War Veterans Who
Became State Leaders which will be published early this summer. It
is the story of six governors of Pennsylvania who were veterans of the
Civil War, their wartime experiences, and the conflict’s lasting impact
on the way they governed the state. |
